Hiking Socials Squamish

Sḵwx̱wú7mesh

In partnership with

The Anishinaabemowin phrase, mamaajii-maamawi, means to move together or to be in motion together.

The hiking and walking programs focus on intentional movement by leaning into our Indigenous ways of being and knowing, and embracing the connection of our feet to mother earth.

At the heart of these programs we will hold space for culturally-safe discussions on how movement can be a form of medicine, and how it can bring us balance: spiritually, emotionally, physically, and mentally. The intention of the program is to bring community together and to reshape our relationship with movement by dismantling colonial and societal pressures around why and how we should move.

2025 Sea to Sky Hiking Series

In partnership with The North Face, Indigenous Women Outdoors is excited to restart our hiking program this year! Join us this summer on a series of three hiking socials all taking place on the traditional territory of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish Nation) in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) at the Sea to Sky Gondola.

Each of the three hikes will be on a different trail that is accessible by the Sea to Sky Gondola, and will cater to a variety of experience levels. But don’t let that deter you, as all of our social hikes focus on intentional movement that honours each and everyone – we encourage all of those interested in hiking to join us!

We raise our hands to our partners who are supporting this year’s hiking program.

Our friends at The North Face are gifting each participant with:

  • a hiking backpack and sun hat that will be used on the day of the hike,
  • a discount code to purchase hiking gear so that everyone can continue to enjoy spending time on the mountains (provided after the hike)
  • après at the Summit Lodge for each of our hikes

Our friends at the Sea to Sky Gondola are gifting each participant round-trip access up the gondola.

Registration for each event will open approximately two weeks prior to the hiking date. Keep an eye on our social media channels for program information and registration dates.

Program Overview

Each social hike will begin with an opening circle at the base of the gondola. Participants will be given their backpacks, hats, and gondola passes before starting off at 9:00 am sharp. We will take a leisurely pace on every hike, ensuring there are plenty of breaks to enjoy the views, engage in conversation, and rest. During the hike, we will stop and familiarize ourselves with our plant kin, and if available, we’ll snack on some fresh berries. Once our hike concludes, we will enjoy lunch at the Summit Lodge.

She loves spending time with her beads and in the garden, and she is learning Anishinaabemowin.
