Heather is a nêhiyaw-iskwêw from the Michel First Nation with Norwegian roots. Raised in North Vancouver, she spent much of her time on the land with her family, participating in many outdoor activities. Her love for the outdoors and community has remained strong, which is what drew her to participate in IWO programming from its inception.

Heather works as a lawyer, assisting Indigenous governments with governance issues and helping First Nations develop and draft their own laws. She also advises corporate clients on a wide range of Indigenous-related matters.

Outside of her professional life, Heather loves to ski and recently ventured into the world of backcountry skiing. She is also an avid runner – you can usually find her on the road or trails, training for her next race. Heather is passionate about Indigenous language revitalization and has been dedicated to learning nêhiyawêwin for several years. Heather also enjoys road cycling and is eager to explore mountain biking in the near future!
