Gabrielle Savage is of Cree, Métis, Filipino, and Scottish ancestry and is based on the never ceded Coast Salish territories of the Sḵwx̱ú7mesh (Squamish), səlil̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations. She serves a dual role at IWO as a Board Member, and the Program Lead for Sailing. She is a lifelong sailor and outdoor enthusiast who feels most at home on the water or moving through wild places. Sailing has shaped her sense of teamwork, grit, and curiosity from a young age, and she continues to race competitively, while also sharing her love of the Salish Sea with others. She also loves running, backcountry hiking, canoeing, and ski touring.

By day, Gabrielle works as the Manager of Indigenous Health at BC Emergency Health Services, where she supports work toward cultural safety, equity, and systems change in prehospital care. When she’s not outside or at work, she’s usually cooking something a little too ambitious, or scheming her next adventure. She believes that loving the water also means taking care of it, a value she brings to further volunteer work on the board of the Georgia Strait Alliance- for the protection of the Salish Sea.
